PURE BLISS MED SPA / AUGUST 17, 2023 / BODY, FACE

As the summer quickly comes to a close so does its intense sun. If you were anything like us this summer, you might’ve found yourself in the sun a lot — and with lots of sun can come minor damage to the skin.

Sometimes even if you try your best to protect your skin from UV exposure you may still “feel the burn.” This can result from not properly reapplying your SPF when sitting, playing, or even driving in the sun for long periods of time. Also, if you’re not wearing the correct broad-spectrum sunscreen and you get too much sun exposure, damage can surface. But that’s okay because at Pure Bliss Med Spa, Atlanta’s Number One Med Spa, we have just the answer to help you repair any damage to the skin.

Here, we will be discussing the best products and treatments to repair sun damage.

Do you need to correct sun-damaged skin after a long summer in the sun? Reach out to Pure Bliss Med Spa and schedule a session today.

Products for Treating Sun Exposure

Choosing the correct products all year long may be difficult. It may be even harder when trying to find the right products that cater to specific skin concerns — especially if you’re worried about developing skin cancer or premature aging. As such, having your set routine is extremely important as there are specific products within that routine that will help provide relief and repair to your sun-damaged skin. For example, toners, exfoliators, serums, and sunscreens are extremely vital when nursing your skin back to good health.

Below, you will find why and which are the best options for you:

Toners

Toners are great to use all year round, but specific toners can cater to the healing and repair of specific skin concerns. When dealing with sun-damaged skin, you’re more than likely experiencing texture issues and hyperpigmentation.

With both of those skin concerns, it is extremely important to focus on the health of the skin’s barrier. The goal is to use hydrating toners so that your skin is breathable and can properly absorb the corrective ingredients in the products that are applied after toner. Also, with the summer’s heat, your skin may experience a little dehydration, which is normal. Hydrating toners include ingredients that help skin the layers of the skin hydrated by increasing the percentage of water content in the skin. Some of our favorite hydrating toner is that we carry it Pure Bliss Med Spa include:

  • Equalizer Toner by Skinceuticals
  • Antioxidant Toner by Pure Bliss Rx

Exfoliators

Treading very cautiously when repairing sun-damaged skin is number one. So when it comes to exfoliating, gentle but effective is how you’d approach it. Most clients want to get rid of the damage immediately and will over-exfoliate thinking it helps but it only hurts the skin more.

Normally exfoliating three times a week is acceptable but when dealing with damaged skin 1-2 times a week is best. Avoiding over-exfoliation is key so you don’t damage the skin further.

A couple of our favorite toners here at Pure Bliss Med Spa include:

  • AHA/BHA Cream by SkinMedica
  • Microscrub by Skinceuticals

Serums

There are a lot of clients who wonder if the serum is a product that needs to be added to their routine. The answer is yes, especially when dealing with damaged skin. Not all serums are designed for all skin types and concerns, so finding the right serum for yours is essential. Unlike Toners, serums are more geared toward correcting the skin’s specific concerns. There are hydrating serums, there are anti-aging serums, there are acne-fighting serums, and many more that fall under different categories. But corrective serums are ideal before and after the summer months. Not only do they help prevent concerns before the summer comes but they also help correct hyperpigmentation that may come from too much sun. It is always best to consult with your aesthetician first to make sure that you choose the best serum for your routine.

Some of our favorite corrective serums that we carry here at Pure Bliss Med Spa include:

Vitamin C

  • Phloretin CF Serum by Skinceuticals
  • CE Ferulic Serum by Skinceuticals
  • Brightening Serum by Pure Bliss Rx

Phyto

  • Phyto Corrective Gel by Skinceuticals

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a very important step in everyone’s skincare routine, no matter how perfect your skin may appear. Sunscreen is both preventative and corrective when it comes to the skin and its potential concerns. Although sunscreen must be worn all year long to protect the skin from the sun, it is most important during the hottest season of the year. But just like in the winter, you may forget to apply your sunscreen, it can also happen in the summer and this can lead to damaged skin. As the sun shines it releases something called UVA and UVB rays that can absorb into the skin. These rays have the ability to harm and damage the skin, causing cancer and extreme hyperpigmentation. Which is why it is important to wear your sunscreen.

Sunscreen is the final and most important step in your regimen when it comes to healing sun-damaged skin. It protects the damage from the UVA and UVB rays while allowing the products with corrective ingredients to properly absorb into the skin and work their magic. Sheer sunscreens are a great option for those who want something lightweight and want to avoid any white cast. This sunscreen formula helps give individuals a healthy glow without making them look greasy. Sheer Sunscreens are also breathable and help to balance the skin’s oils.

Some of our favorite sheer sunscreens that we carry at Pure Bliss Med Spa are:

  • Essential Defense by SkinMedica
  • Lightweight Sunscreen by Pure Bliss Rx
  • Intellishade by Revisions

Sun Damaged Skin Treatments

Choosing the correct products for your skin type and concerns is great for home care. It ensures that your progress continues and isn’t in vain. But making sure that you’re guided in the right direction when it comes to result-driven treatments is just as important. Not every treatment is for every concern and choosing the correct ones for sun-damaged skin is essential.

Below we list the best corrective treatments we offer at Pure Bliss Med Spa and why they are great for correcting this specific concern.

Advanced Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are always a great way to correct damaged skin, such as hyperpigmentation. But no matter what season we’re in we find that a lot of clients are nervous about receiving a chemical peel. Especially during or just after the summer months. Most skincare providers suggest doing chemical peels in the fall and winter months because the days are shorter, the sun isn’t as intense, and you’re less likely to be outside for long periods of time. This keeps your skin safe from the sun as you peel. But more importantly, once the sun damage has settled chemical peels are okay to receive as long as they are done by a professional. Starting with a low percentage and building the skin’s resilience is always the best way to ease into chemical peels. But it is indeed a great option for healing sun-damaged skin.

Light Chemical Peels

For those who have never had a chemical peel or are skeptical of starting with an advanced percentage, light peels are a great alternative for correcting sun-damaged skin. Light peels take a little longer to receive results but do an amazing job at gently exfoliating the skin to break down unwanted pigmentation. Also, if your skin is a little more sensitive than most then this is the best option for you. We have 3 light peel options to help correct your skin; Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, and Salicylic Acid. The best options for repairing sun-damaged skin would be Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid.

Hydrafacials

When it comes to sun-damaged skin, restoration is the goal. Not only restoring the natural skin tone but also the barrier of the skin. When the barrier of the skin is damaged most times it can affect the hydration levels in the skin as well. The hydrafacial is a great treatment option for not only restoring hydration levels but the skin’s natural tone as well.

We offer three hydrafacial options at Pure Bliss Med Spa. The Hydrafacial, The Hydrafacial Deluxe, and The Hydrafacial Platinum.

  • HydraFacial– Our HydraFacial Treatment is a 30-minute treatment providing the results of an hour-long facial leaving your skin glowing like never before. This hydrafacial option will include a deep cleanse, exfoliation, extractions, and hydration to finish.
  • HydraFacial Deluxe – Our hydrafacial deluxe is the next best thing for correcting your skin’s key concerns. This treatment will include a deep cleanse, exfoliation, extractions, a serum booster of your aesthetician’s choice, LED light therapy, and hydration to finish.
  • Platinum HydraFacial – Our Platinum HydraFacial Treatment is our most advanced selection using the HydraFacial MD machine for aging skin. This anti-aging treatment is great for reducing inflammation and excess fluids by adding cupping for lymphatic drainage in order to mitigate premature aging. This treatment will include a deep cleanse, exfoliation, extractions

Laser Needling

Laser Needling, or laser skin resurfacing, is a great treatment for correcting damaged skin. Laser Needling is an advanced corrective treatment that uses both Laser Genesis and microneedling to help renew the skin’s surface and brighten its complexion.

The combined treatments use similar approaches, which are to damage the surface of the skin to begin its natural healing process and stimulate elastin and collagen production. This eventually leads to rejuvenated youthful skin. This heat-based laser treatment and microneedling procedure require no downtime other than the face appearing red or pink making them a great pair.

Laser Needling is better than the traditional microneedling treatment because it is able to treat multiple concerns like Post Inflammatory Erythema, Hyperpigmentation, Skin Pitting, Redness, Melasma, Sun Spots, Age Spots, uneven skin texture, and many more concerns. Laser Needling is accessible to anyone who wants healthier happier skin. Similar to the microneedling treatment, anticipate minimal downtime for no more than four days.
