Botox® is the most popular injectable treatment in the world, and for good reason. It’s been around for more than 40 years and has been the subject of countless clinical trials and studies over that time.
While Botox was initially used in medical applications, its use in medical aesthetics also has a strong track record of both safety and efficacy. If you’re curious about what Botox can do for you, we encourage you to join the many residents of Sandy Springs, Georgia, who rely on expert aesthetician Asha Hill, NP, and our team at Pure Bliss Medspa for the very latest advancements in medical aesthetics.
One of the most common questions our clients ask is how long they can expect their Botox results to last. So let’s cover this topic in detail, and talk about some things you can do to make the most of your investment.
Botox is an injectable medication formulated from a carefully controlled volume of a neurotoxin called Clostridium botulinum. In higher concentrations, this substance can be deadly, but the amount used in Botox is perfectly safe, and is manufactured under the highest safety standards.
Botox works by preventing treated muscle fibers from going through their full range of motion. When injected into your facial muscles, the medication stops them from tugging and pulling your skin into lines, folds, and wrinkles. You’ll still be able to make normal facial expressions, but the treated areas will not be able to create the visible signs of aging.
Botox is approved for use in treating crow’s feet, the small wrinkles that extend from the sides of your eyes when you laugh or smile. It can also be used to smooth away the furrows between your brows known as frown lines, as well as the horizontal lines that develop on your forehead when you raise your eyebrows.
Botox is also used “off label” to treat other signs of aging.
The temporary nature of Botox treatments is one of the things that make it such a popular option. Getting Botox injections takes just a few minutes, and the effects will develop over the next couple of days. You can expect those results to last 3-4 months. That said, some people find their results lasting for 4-6 months, and some find their results fading within just a couple of months.
In general, you can expect to achieve longer results from your second and subsequent treatments than from the first time you try Botox. It’s important to understand that everyone has a different reaction to Botox, and you won’t know exactly how long your results will last until you’ve had your first round of injections.
The choices you make in the first couple of days after getting Botox can affect how long your results will last. Be sure to be gentle with your face for a few days as the medication does its work. Use a gentle touch when washing your face or applying cosmetics or products.
You should also try to sleep on your back during this initial timeframe. Sleeping on your stomach or side can place excess pressure on the treatment area, preventing Botox from properly settling into your muscle tissue.
It’s also important to exercise the muscles treated with Botox for the first few days after your injections. You can do this by creating the facial expressions that would normally create the signs of aging that you’re seeking to reduce. Frowning, smiling, and raising your eyebrows are some examples. Doing this can also help your results develop a bit faster.
